FROME Town Community Benefit Society (FTCBS) is asking local people to get involved to help the group’s aim of providing a football and community hub for the town. FTCBS describe below what the intention of the society is, and more information will be available at their AGM, which will be held on Thursday 30th November at Badgers Hill.
FTCBS say, “Do you want to bring football in Frome into community ownership? Are you interested in helping to build a welcoming hub for the community of Frome? Do you have ideas about how the site at Badgers Hill could be used for the community? If so, we need you.
“Join FTCBS as a member and to help decide our future. We invite our community to become members of FTCBS and have a direct input into the work we do. As an FTCBS member, you help us ensure that the work we do at Badgers Hill creates real community benefit.
“FTCBS has been established to help create and run a thriving and dynamic community asset which brings sporting, social, cultural, economic and educational value to Frome. We need your help to do this.
“We aim to do this in two ways. Firstly, by working with the football community in Frome. We are lucky to have Frome Town AFC as tenants of Badgers Hill, but the FTCBS is not just about the first team. We are interested in supporting women’s football, youth football, disabled football, walking football – all of football in Frome. We believe football is important to communities. It provides a real opportunity to bring people from every walk of life together to play, celebrate and unite our community. Being a member of FTCBS gives you the opportunity to help us achieve these aims and help football in Frome grow from strength to strength.
“Secondly, by working with the wider community of Frome. We have a lot of opportunity at Badgers Hill to create an inclusive and thriving community hub. In addition to the football grounds and stands, we have ample space for other community events and initiatives. As Frome’s second largest venue with additional spaces for hire, there is a lot we can do to support our community and bring additional sporting, social, cultural, economic and educational value to Frome. As a member, you can help us make this a buzzing, active and fun community space for all of Frome to enjoy.
“To join, you need to be in support of our objectives which you can find at www.badgershillnews.org/7-2/about-us/ – you must be a member of our community in some way, i.e. you support Frome Town AFC, you live or work in Frome, you attend our events, participate in our projects, volunteer with us, or you are a member of our local community, and you must be prepared to take an active interest in our work and development.
“Members of FTCBS will be kept up to date with our plans via our quarterly members’ newsletter. We value our members and invite feedback to the management team via members’ surveys. All members are encouraged to attend our annual general meeting on 30th November to hear about our progress and future plans. At the AGM you can also vote on plans and proposals (each member has one vote) and stand to be elected to our board of directors (if you are age 18+). You can find out more about what’s involved in being a director of FTCBS at www.badgershillnews.org/join-the-board.
“Membership starts at a minimum annual membership fee of £32 (adult) or £16 for junior membership (U16) for one share in Frome Town Community Benefit Society Ltd, entitling members to one vote each. We also have other membership offers available: members plus, starting at £75 per year; and lifetime membership, starting at £750 per year. Every penny of money received through membership will be wholly invested in efforts to deliver community benefit to the people of Frome through football and other activities and events at Badgers Hill. As a member, you help us deliver that community benefit.”
