THE Ladies’ Section at Orchardleigh Golf Club recently enjoyed an ‘away day’ at Rushmore Golf Club, organised by the lady captain Anne Carpenter.
The club reports, “Every year the Ladies’ section organises an ‘away day’ and this year Rushmore was chosen because it is an interesting and challenging course. The ladies went out in teams of three and the format for the day was a ‘waltz’ where scores are calculated by taking the team’s best score on the first hole, the best two scores on the second hole and all three scores on the third and so on.
“The best team score for the day was 76 points, which was won by the lady captain’s team, Anne Carpenter, Lorraine Collings and Christine Arnold. On the away day there is always a trophy given for the best silver individual score which went to Sue Marshall who had 32 points (winning on count back) and the trophy for the best individual score in the bronze section was won by a new member Helen Marshall with 37 points. There was also ‘nearest the pin’, which was won by Pat Jones. After a two-course meal in the clubhouse, Lorraine Collings thanked the lady captain for organising such an enjoyable day.
“In other news, the Barwell Masters, which was played at Orchardleigh on Saturday 24th May, was won this year by Sarah Hynds.
“So far Orchardleigh Ladies have done well in the Bristol & District Alliance League despite losing their first away match to Wedmore B 2/12, as they went on to win away to Weston-super-Mare B team 9/5 and away to Saltford B winning 9/5.
“The first home match was drawn with Mendip B 7/7. In the Somerset Interclub League Orchardleigh have played two matches so far; the first at home to Taunton & Pickerage which they lost 4/3 but did better in the away match drawing 3.5/3.5.
