RESIDENTS of Innox Hill celebrated the inauguration of a brand-new stone archway on Monday 1st May in beautiful May Day sunshine.
The arch was conceived and built by designer and local resident Graham Burgess, with the help and support of neighbours to mark the 200th anniversary of the building of the collection of weavers’ cottages to which it leads.
Graham said, “I’ve long felt that this neighbourhood needed a proper entrance and a threshold, not a ‘gated community’ but perhaps a more clearly defined one.” He admitted that he’d been collecting local walling stone for years in the hope that the archway might build it in time to celebrate the anniversary.
The ribbon was cut by nine-year-old Otto Hickish and the plaque unveiled by former deputy mayor Tricia Golinski, both local residents.
