Frome-based majorette team, The Fascination Twirlers, represented England in the European Majorette Championships recently and came home with a bronze medal.
The team, which has been training for the past year, won their way to represent England in the competition held at Kastela in Croatia on the 3rd to 5th of October. They had got through four qualifying rounds and then the national championships in July, before they were selected to represent England in Croatia.
Eleven countries from across the continent competed in the competition including Ireland, France, Belgium, Norway, Czech Republic and Bulgaria. Holland stole the show by taking gold home.
The competition was tough but the team, which has girls aged between six to 18, pulled out their very best performance to take a bronze place.
The team was extremely pleased with the result after all their hard work.
They also had many problems on the way including members pull-ing out of the team, which was resolved by local teams Charisma Twirlers and Westbury Sapphires pulling together to help them out.
Troupe leader Tanya Stevens said, “Myself and Tracy Brewer were delighted and when we saw the team on the podium with the English flag being raised it just made all the hard work worth while. The team could train between 15 and 20 hours some weeks leading up to the competition so it was a big relief for the members and they just couldn’t wait to get to the party and celebrate.
“We all had a great time, ending the trip with a well deserved day at the beach, where the members went jet skiing and paddle boating.”
