A fund set up in memory of Frome man James Eyers has raised £39,000 for Dorothy House Hospice Care, with the latest donation of £3,700 presented in December.
James was just 27 when he was killed in a road traffic accident in March 2007, and his family and friends decided to set up a charity memorial fund as a way of celebrating and commemorating his life. His mum, Sue Edwards, says, “James had been planning to fundraise for Dorothy House by running the Bath Half Marathon, among other things, so we decided to raise money for the hospice in his memory.”
The most recent donation to the James Eyers Tulip Fund is the result of a number of fundraising events, including raffle ticket sales outside Sainsbury’s, Marks & Spencer and Asda in Frome, and at the Frome Show, sponsorship for Team Eyers’ entry into the 2009 Bath Half, and the second annual quiz night and auction held at Frome Rugby Club in November. Sue Edwards said, “James’s fiancée Tamara and all the family would like to thank everyone who has supported us: M&S, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Frome Rugby Club – especially Pete Lippiatt – and all of James’s friends.”
Dorothy House community fundraiser Yvonne Brunton said, “James’s family and friends have found a wonderful and worthwhile way of remembering him. We are so grateful for their continued generous support for Dorothy House – these donations really do make a difference to people’s lives.”
