Issue 301 – The Griffin is Pub of the Year

REGULARS at The Griffin are celebrating after the pub was named as Pub of the Year in the Bath and borders area by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

The Griffin was selected after a group from CAMRA visited the shortlist of five pubs in the area, judging them on their value for money, sympathy with CAMRA aims, the quality of the beer, and the atmosphere of the pubs.
James Honey, chair of CAMRA Bath and borders, presented the pub with the award on Tuesday 11th May. He said, “It consistently scored high with good quality beer throughout the year.”
Rick Lyall, who owns The Griffin and Charlie Thomas, manager, were delighted to receive the award. “It’s fantastic,” said Charlie. “It shows the work we’ve put in has really paid off. We’ve got good quality beer, a great atmosphere and music.” Rick added, “It was the Griffin’s 10th anniversary last year, and we’d spent lots on modernising the pub, so it’s nice to be recognised.”
CAMRA is an independent, voluntary organisation that campaigns for real ale, real pubs and consumer rights. CAMRA campaigns for a greater appreciation of traditional beers, ciders, and perries as part of the national heritage and culture, and supports the public house as a focus of community life.
