Frome Selwood Rotary Club members have made two donations to charities at recent meetings to Forever Friends and Positive Action on Cancer.
President Guy Parkinson presented a cheque for £1,750 to Bernie Marden, a paediatric consultant, for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the RUH. This project is part of the Forever Friends Appeal, which is raising £4.7 million towards a new ‘NICU’ that will be the first of a new generation of therapeutic healthcare buildings.
The money was raised jointly with Frome Rotary Club at the Old Time Music Hall held last month at the Memorial Theatre.
Mary Taylor, director of the Frome based charity Positive Action on Cancer (PAC) attended a recent meeting of Frome Selwood Rotary Club, and was presented with a cheque by Rotary president Guy Parkinson for £500.
The money was raised partly at a Valentine’s film show of Dr Zhivago at the Merlin Theatre, and partly from donations received at the funeral of Ron Hackshall. Ron was a much respected founder member of the Rotary Club, and was well known to many in Frome from his time running the Frome Bookshop in Stoney Street.
