CYCLING enthusiasts from Frome have banded together in an attempt to set a new record whilst raising money for Children In Need.
The challenge is to cycle the distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats using a turbo trainer set up at the Live2ride store in Frome.
Store owner Richard Evans said, “We re aiming to cycle the 837 miles within 24 hours with a team of 12 riders. To put this into perspective, each cyclist will need to cycle for two hours, averaging an amazing 35 miles per hour.
“We will have three turbo trainers set up, one to warm up on, one active one and another to be set up to each rider’s specific needs. The cyclists will each put in a 30 minute shift on the bike and will rotate on the bike. For instance, when one rider has finished on the turbo trainer, another is ready to go on the second trainer and the rider after that will be warming up on the third, while the first is set up according to the rider’s needs.
“The challenge will take place from 3.00pm and go through to 3.00pm the following day.
“I thought it would be a good idea to set such a hard physical challenge whilst raising money for such a good cause. The turbo trainers will be on a raise platform in the shop.”
Richard is not adverse to setting such challenges, having completed the Lands End to John O’ Groats ride himself and more recently completing “The Etape” which is one of the hardest stages of The Tour De France.
Richard continued, “We are really hoping that the local community will get behind the challenge and support the team by visiting the shop to provide moral support. We are also hoping that people will be motivated to sponsor the team by visiting our website at www.justgiving. com/l2rlejog
