A FROME cyclist, who will be joining over 350 cyclists in riding from London to Paris later this month, is holding a fundraising party for UK charity, UK Youth.
‘Keen cyclist’ Rupert Waterhouse from Frome is undertaking the 520km cycle ride on 23rd of June and to help with sponsorship, Rupert is holding a fundraising party on Friday 10th of June at the Masonic Hall at 8.00pm. Entry is £5 with music from Three Corners, a DJ, bar and prizes donated by local businesses.
Rupert said, “I rode about 7,000 miles last year and over the past five years have undertaken a charity bike ride every summer, including Land’s End to John O’Groats in 2007 and Tour of Britain for Prostate Cancer charity last year.
“I wanted to do something a little different this year. London to Paris is over three days and is a great mass participation event.
“In order to accomplish this ride I have been undertaking an intensive schedule of training since Christmas, involving many hours indoors on an exercise bike and many more outdoors, building up to over 200 miles a week, including a number of 100-mile rides.
“I will be raising money for the charity UK Youth, which is celebrating its centenary year.
“I have pledged to raise a minimum of £3,000 for this very deserving cause. UK Youth is a leading national youth work charity supporting over 750,000 young people, helping them to raise their aspirations, realise their potential and have their achievements recognised via non-formal, accredited education programmes and activities.”
The London to Paris cycle attracts attention from hundreds of cyclists each year.
