THE Mason’s Arms in Frome has raised £3,184 to help change a local man whose life has been turned upside down by a sporting injury.
The event raised funds for Simon Bates, the former Frome rugby player who broke his neck seven years ago. The cheque was presented to Simon by Paul and Vanessa Faulkner, landlords at the Mason’s Arms.
An assisted mobility chair was also donated to Simon.
Paul and Vanessa would like to thank everyone who helped and supported the event with collections and sale of raffle tickets around Frome, as well as the players of the 24-hour marathon.
The centrepiece of the event was a 24-hour darts marathon from 8.00pm on Friday night to 8.00pm on Saturday. After the marathon had been completed, the raffle was drawn, with prizes ranging from a helicopter ride to prizes from hair salons and mobile phone shops.
On the Friday evening people also enjoyed trying out a virtual driving simulator. The weekend included appearances from celebrities including former Pan’s People dancer Dee Dee Wilde.
The event took place over on the 26th and 27th of August.
