Fair Frome is asking people to join their anniversary celebrations and help to raise vital funds during the first week of June.
Local people are asked to invite friends and neighbours around for a coffee morning, afternoon tea or a meal, in return for a donation to Fair Frome.
The charity organisers say, “It will be a wonderful opportunity for people to get to know each other, make new friends, or talk with old friends and enjoy the unique community spirit that makes Frome such a great place to live. It will also be a great way to help raise funds for a local charity that is making a real difference to the lives of local people in need in the area. Many of the town’s restaurants, cafes and community groups are also joining in the celebrations.
“Starting on Friday 1st June, Fair Frome will be working with YMCA Routes, who will host their Youth Fayre (themed Health & Wellbeing) in the forecourt of St John’s Church. Fair Frome will be providing a delicious meal of Asian street food to all comers for voluntary donations.
“Next day, on Saturday 2nd June, the Fair Frome centre (at the rear of Frome Town Hall), will be open, from 12 noon until 4pm. The local community are invited to drop in for refreshments and discover how the food and furniture banks work, and other ways the charity supports those people most in need in our community.
“On Sunday 3rd June, Gracewell Healthcare at Welshmill will host a Tea Dance, with a raffle to raise money for Fair Frome. Advance booking is essential, tel. 01373 610007.
“Fair Frome was set up four years ago to actively work for fairness for all residents, regardless of their abilities, origins or beliefs. It runs campaigns – for example Access for All, the initiative which raises awareness and addresses access issues across the town and its venues.
“The Furniture Bank, which is proving to be an extremely popular project, has now given out more than 500 donated household items within just 10 months. In addition, the charity has started a recycling project supplying donated white goods and essential electrical items to those in need.
“However, Fair Frome is best known for its food-related work; Community Lunches, where communities are invited to share a hot meal; and the Food Bank, where a team of volunteers collect, sort and make up bags of emergency food parcels,which are given to people experiencing financial crisis who have been referred by partner agencies such as social work or health professionals.
“Fair Frome currently distributes an average of 50 food parcels a month to individuals and families in the Frome area, with a value of over £1,000.
“Fair Frome relies on public support to fund these important local services and campaigns.
