THE Ladies’ section at Orchardleigh Golf Club have played their first fun competition of the new season – a nine-hole bowmaker competition on Pancake Day on Tuesday 21st February, organised by the lady captain, Loes de Kleuver.
“24 ladies joined in the golf, going out in teams of three with the two best scores to count,” reported the club. “Although the day started rather damp and drizzly, the sun did shine later on and as the course is in quite good condition now despite all the rain that fell in January, the players were able to have a very pleasant and enjoyable round.
“Loes de Kleuver presented the prizes to the winning teams. Lorraine Collings, Sue Sweet and Catherine Szabo came in with the most stableford points, scoring 32, and in second place with 31 were Christine Arnold, Mary Ford and Liz Attenborough. There was a booby prize too which went to Molly Carey and Carol Marquiss, who were a team of two rather than three, so they did well to get the points they did and won some chocolates to enjoy for their efforts.
“As it was Shrove Tuesday, after the golf everyone enjoyed some delicious pancakes in the clubhouse where a few more ladies who hadn’t played golf, joined them to indulge in the pancakes.”
