FROME Development Community Interest Company (FDCIC) is delighted to have agreed a further three grants for community groups.
The CIC’s remit is to offer funding to individuals, groups and organisations to enable them to undertake projects in Frome.
Peter Macfadyen, on behalf of the CIC said, “Late last year, the CIC worked closely with the town council and the allotment association to purchase land for the very successful allotments at the Muriel Jones field. We have also supported outreach activities to ensure that the opportunities this presents are as widespread as possible.
“We have now awarded £3,000 to the Association to continue this work and to look at including courses on growing food, organising a weekly gardening club for children, developing a car share scheme and establishing links with the food bank.
“In this round of grant giving we have also awarded £3,556 to the Frome community drum circle of ‘Drum it Up Community Interest Company’. This project builds on a successful pilot community-focused drum circle and will enable this to be run monthly. The drum circle is designed to bring different people together from across Frome building community links.
“Finally, we awarded £1,500 to ‘Fresh Futures’ an outdoor learning programme addressing young people’s issues and developing practical skills in woodworking and horticulture. This will engage with young people aged 16-25 in Frome – in particular those not in education, employment, or training. It will empower them to develop the confidence and skills to create new opportunities for themselves.
“This funding fits well with the CIC’s desire to ‘catalyse’ projects – it is aimed at giving the project a kick start to show what it can do, and thus enable the organisers to interest and additional funds.”
