A LOCAL author is soon to start running a five week course teaching people about the history of Frome.
Frome Community Education’s course on the town’s illustrious and fascinating history begins on Thursday 29th September.
The afternoon course is being tutored by author and historian David Lassman.
It will cover the history of Frome from its founding by St Aldhelm up to the present day and there will be a chance for students to research their own chosen subject.
David said, ‘The local history course has always proved very popular and can be a springboard to other things.
“A former participant of the course, Mick Davis, co-wrote the book ‘The Historic Inns of Frome’, inspired by the work he did on the course.”
David is the author of ‘Frome in the Great War’, published last month by Pen & Sword, and has just been commissioned to write two further books on the town.
He is a former director of the International Jane Austen Festival and will also be running a course, starting this month, called ‘Jane Austen in Popular Culture’.
