The Friends of Frome Hospital will be hosting another public defibrillator awareness programme on Thursday May 26th at the Corsley Reading Rooms, Corsley Heath, located on the A362 opposite the car showrooms.
Three demonstrations will take place during the evening, at 6.30pm, 7.30pm and 8.30pm, and will be led by the specialist cardiac/CPR recovery training team from AED Locators, Bristol.
Previous training sessions at the Cheese and Grain and Chapmanslade attracted 300 and 100 people respectively, and the ‘Friends’ are hopeful of attracting a further hundred or so people to Corsley.
Derek Trick, Friends of Frome Hospital, defibrillator project leader said,: “With 20 Publicly Available Defibrillators (PAD) now installed in and around Frome and in the surrounding villages, that are served by the medical teams at the Enos Way Health Park, it is imperative that we make as many people aware of the action and procedures required if they are confronted by anyone in a cardiac trauma situation. A sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, of any age and anywhere.
“The 20 AED defibrillators in our Frome network are the latest state-of-the-art units, which have been specifically developed to be used by people with little or no knowledge of medical procedures. Time is of the essence at a cardiac trauma scene and having practical knowledge on how to deal with the situation until trained paramedics arrive can make a significant difference.
“Already from our previous training sessions, we now have over 400 people from the Frome area who have made themselves aware of what to do and react in a critical situation, and the Friends of Frome Hospital team ask for those of you who would like to attend one of the awareness sessions to set an hour aside to come to Corsley on May 26th.”
The Friends of Frome Hospital recently received an accolade from the national heart charity Arrhythmia Alliance, acknowledging Frome as the first community to establish a life-saving network of PAD units that can be quickly accessed within minutes from anywhere across the neighbourhood.
