The Lions Club of Frome will be holding its 32nd Annual Sponsored Swim at Frome Leisure Centre on Sunday 26th March at 5.00pm.
The event is being supported by Aggregate Industries Limited, meaning all expenses to run the event are paid for, so all sponsorship money can be donated to the chosen charities.
This year, as the Lions Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary, 75% of the money raised will be donated to the teams and 25% donated to the Lions’ Charitable Trust.
Entries are invited from teams of six swimmers, with each team member obtaining their own sponsorship.
Swimming will take place between 5pm and 8pm and teams wishing to swim within a certain period should make that clear on the entry form.
The Lions Club tries to cater for children’s teams to swim as early as possible, but is aware that mixed adult/children’s teams or separate teams from the same organisation like either to swim together or not more than one hour apart, to lend support.
Unfortunately the club cannot always allocate a specific time slot, but if the preferred time is no longer available, the nearest will be allocated. The first half of the event is always popular, so participants should be as flexible as possible.
The event is challenging and it is therefore very important that team captains ensure all participants are reasonable swimmers. This is particularly important with children’s teams – enthusiasm and excitement can easily lead to swimmers ‘overdoing it’.
This year there will be six trophies to compete for: the team completing the most laps, the team completing the most laps without a majority of swimming club members, the team raising the most sponsorship both pledged on the evening and collected, the organisation raising the most sponsorship by entering more than one team pledged and collected, the team aged 11 and under completing the most legs and the best performing school, as judged by the Lions Club President.
Further details and entry forms are obtainable, preferably by email to greg.wood@fromelions.org.uk and returned by email or by post to 17 Lansdowne Place, Frome, BA11 3HP. Entry forms should be returned by 20th February.
