One of Frome Lions Club’s longest running fund raisers is the annual hay bale collection, which each year raises money for a designated charity.
Lion Mike Geake explained, “Lions visit farms in Frome and surrounding villages in early autumn to collect bales of hay and straw, along with monetary gifts which have been donated by local farmers. The hay is then sold to other farmers who have not produced any and the proceeds go to a local charity decided by the club.
“This time, the beneficiary was the Frome Stroke Group and at their recent meeting held at Trinity Hall, the president of Frome Lions Club, Jim Dowling, presented them with a cheque for £1,200 which will go towards the cost of running the group and supporting the various activities undertaken by them.
“The Lions are indebted to the local farming community for their valued support of this project and to the hauliers who have loaned transport to enable collection.”
