The Lions Club of Frome held their Annual Sportsman’s Dinner at Orchardleigh House in January, with the chosen charity for this year being the Somerset branch of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Mark Symes, Public Relations Officer said, “The event was well supported with 220 guests who enjoyed a superb meal and listened to the guest speaker Bill Beaumont CBE, a former captain of the England Rugby Union team and currently chairman of World Rugby.
“Following the meal and Bill’s address to the audience, an auction of lots was held where the bidding was intense and superbly handled by auctioneer David Millard.
“In addition, a raffle was held with prizes including a full-size TV, DAB radio, coffee maker, case of wine and numerous other bottles and boxes of chocolates.
“The total profit at the end of the night was a magnificent £12,000 and it gave the Lions great pleasure to hand this over to a charity, that will be known to everybody in its provision of nursing care and support for sufferers and families of people with cancer.
“There are simply too many people to thank individually, but special mention to Chris Vincent for allowing the use of Orchardleigh House, Dennis Barnard as Master of Ceremonies and David Millard for making the auction a success.”
