FROME Lions Club has donated £3,000 to the Julian Wort Memorial Fund to help pay for a cardiac screening day for young people.
The money was raised at the club’s annual sponsored swim. The cheque was presented to Shirley Wort, the mother of Julian who died in March 2000 from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS), aged 28.
In his memory the Wort family – supported by friends, family and the wider community – have raised money and in Julian’s memory through the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
Shirley said, “As a family we would like to thank the Frome Lions for this generous donation as this has now helped us reach our target for the next screening day, that we have booked through CRY in memory of Julian. We have booked it for March 21st 2020, nearer the date all details of booking etc will be online .
“We have now raised £47,297 for Julian’s Memorial Fund that is ringfenced with CRY with the support and help of family, friends, and of course the lovely people of Frome and surrounding villages.”
