A LOCAL roller disco group has given a big ‘thank you’ to the Lions club for its £800 donation that enabled less fortunate families to take part in the activity last year.
The non-for-profit organisation, Eleven Roller Disco, runs at the Cheese and Grain every Wednesday during term time at 4pm to 5.30pm for younger children, then at 6pm to 7.30pm for ages 13 and up. As a result of the Lions’ donation, families were able to take part in the activity in last year’s summer holidays.
“Thanks to the Frome Lions,” says organiser Nigel Mclachlan. “We hope we do a similar project this year, providing a structured, fun and inclusive activity to anyone who might be interested.
“The Lions donation enabled us to provide skating at the Cheese and Grain for young people who might not ordinarily come.”
Youth officer for the Lions, Alison Rumming said, “We don’t do as much as we’d like for the local youth and I thought it would be a really good idea to set this up. The families came together and they sat and they watched; we held our breath occasionally when a child went wobbly on the skates!
“It was lovely and there were many children involved; it worked well.”
