Local outdoor activity company, Aveling Adventure, is calling on the people of Frome to come forward to help them raise funds for those whose lives have been devastated by the earthquake in Nepal.
The company is organising a charity climb on the 16th May with all the money raised going to the Disaster Emergency Committee, a network of international charities working together to help communities affected by the earthquake.
“Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal stands at 1400m,” says Jenna Hynd Director of Aveling Adventure. “This is the equivalent to our target of getting 187 climbs up our local climbing wall.
“We want as many people to come along on the 16th May to participate and climb for charity. We know that if we work together the people of Frome and Somerset can beat the target and raise money for communities in Nepal who are desperately in need.”
The event will be hosted by Frome leisure centre 10-3 and all ages and abilities are welcome. Every climb will cost just a donation and all the money will go to support lifesaving aid to help communities re-build their lives.
“This is a brilliant idea to raise money and bring awareness to the tragedy that has struck one of the word’s poorest countries,” said Frome’s Mayor Peter Macfadyen who is backing the appeal.
“Much of Nepal’s income came from tourism and climbing related activity – the loss of this will be as further blow as they try to recover. Climb, watch, or just donate!”
The company has also set up an online fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/Aveling-Adventure to encourage anyone else who would like to contribute to Disaster Emergency Committee’s important work.
