Studio Prints in the Westway Shopping Centre, Frome will be kicking off the festive season with an exhibition and ‘live paint’ by local professional artist Colin Brown.

Colin is a professional Frome-based artist whose artwork hangs in many private and corporate collections throughout Europe.

Colin specialises in painting street scenes of the towns and cities that he visits around the world, and his colourful and impressionistic style allows him to bring the diverse sounds, smells and atmosphere of places the world over, into the homes of his collectors. Alongside these far flung locations, Colin will be revealing a collection of paintings of local scenes, including Frome, Bristol, Bath, Wells and Stourhead.

The first floor gallery will be displaying a selection of Colin’s original artwork and limited edition prints. Colin will be launching the exhibition on Saturday 30th November and will again be in the gallery for the Christmas market on Sunday 1st December between 11.00am and 2.00pm.

Mark Prince of Studio Prints explains, “As well as launching a stunning collection of artwork, we are really excited to have Colin ‘live painting’ over the launch weekend. This will give people a unique opportunity to see up close and personal both how Colin works and also the talent he has to bring the streets he is surrounded by to life.

“Alongside Colin’s exhibition, we will be featuring over 150 new pieces of artwork by some of our most familiar and collectable artists, alongside some great new additions to our gallery portfolio, with prices starting at £25 up to £995. We do feel we have something in style and price for everyone. Couple this with a wide selection of art gift sets, striking new sculpture ranges, some must-have sports and music memorabilia, and our full bespoke picture framing service, we are confident that we have Christmas covered for all our customers this year!”.

Studio Prints look forward to welcoming you into the gallery over the Christmas launch weekend. They are open between 9.00am to 5.30pm on Saturday 30th November and 10.00am to 3.00pm on Sunday 1st December.

A fundraiser has been launched by local volunteers to provide a special Christmas Day for residents and families from all backgrounds who are struggling financially, as well as anyone who feels lonely around that time of year.

The appeal aims to raise £3,000 for the annual Christmas Get Together, which will provide 200 two-course meals with all the trimmings, along with individual gifts, transport to and from venues, carol singing, games, entertainment and company on the day.

The Christmas Get Together began 18 years ago when the community of Frome wanted to create an event on Christmas Day for people who would otherwise be on their own. It is run by a collaboration of local people, businesses and volunteers who donate their time.

  • Christmas stories at local pub

A Frome storyteller will share three Christmas stories he has written with audiences at a local pub this month.

Mike Rogers will share his stories at The Crown Inn in Keyford on Wednesday 10th December, at 7.30pm.

He said, “One story deals with the events surrounding the Nativity, but in a way which is likely to be unfamiliar. Another is linked to that fine old English Christmas tradition, the Mummers’ Play. The third takes place in a care home.

“I have chosen three stories from those I have written over the past three decades and more, which will leave you happier after you have heard them. All you have to do in response is take that happiness away with you and share it with others. "

Counties 1 Southern South

Frome RFC 24 – 8 Swanage & Wareham

Frome RFC welcomed Swanage & Wareham RFC to The Lane on Saturday and, with the visitors sitting at the top of Counties 1 Southern South, Frome knew they would have a touch encounter ahead of them.

Frome started strongly and attacked deep into Swans half right from the kick-off.

The first scrum set the tone, with the home side dominating and with the Swans pack unable to cope, Frome were awarded a penalty. Taking a quick tap penalty and going through a string of phases, the backline released centre Cory Plumridge to bulldoze his way over for an early try, the conversion being added by full-back, Max Stickley.
