TEN local authors have all achieved their ambition of seeing their books in print thanks to the help and support of Frome’s own imprint, Silver Crow Books. Now, both authors and their books will be centre stage in a special evening of celebration at the Merlin Theatre on Thursday 28th March.
This promises to be a hugely entertaining event for all book lovers, with readings by Brenda Bannister, Nikki Copleston, Ed Green, Dizzy Greenfield, Liz Hutchinson, Gill Ingram, Jesse Mack, Barbara Spencer and Wendy Worley.
Patron of Reading, Joffre White, will be compèring the event and reading from the tenth author, Alan Somerville’s, book of short stories. Sadly, Alan died earlier this year, and Frome Writers’ Collective, who manage Silver Crow Books, will be dedicating the evening, entitled ‘Silver Crow Takes Flight’, to his memory. Three of the books are new to the shelves, having been published in the last two months and nearly all can be found in Frome’s well-loved, Hunting Raven bookshop.
Since Silver Crow Books was launched in 2016 by Frome Writers’ Collective (FWC), it has provided FWC members with a cost-effective manuscript assessment service, and the opportunity to use its services which offer a friendly alternative to the often-daunting task of producing and promoting a book in isolation. All books submitted are screened by trained readers and FWC co-ordinators, with a final report discussed with the writer. Authors whose books meet the agreed criteria, are entitled to use the Silver Crow logo, publish at a discount with selected publishing partners and participate in joint marketing opportunities.
Sue Watts from Silver Crow said, “Silver Crow has been a great success and we’re delighted that its distinctive logo is now to be seen on 10 books. Other manuscripts are currently being assessed and we’ve just opened this year’s spring window for new submissions.
“The Merlin event on the 28th marks an important milestone for us and we’re very excited about the future.”
‘Silver Crow Takes Flight’ starts at 7.45pm. Tickets cost £5.50 and are available from the Merlin box office (01373 465949) or at www.merlin theatre.co.uk.
