A LOCAL stone craftsman has carved a tribute to Frome’s ‘Ordinary Utopia’ motto into a wall on Willow Vale.
The motto for Frome’s Ordinary Utopia, ‘Something Wonderful Will Happen’, conceived in 2014 by artist, Ruth Proctor, has been beautifully carved by local stonemason Andrew James of Carved Stone Letters and Masonry, into a plain section of stone on a house along Willow Vale.
The stone had previously been covered in graffiti, but the owners hope this uplifting affirmation will now bring pleasure to the many people who walk through this part of the town.
Andrew produced the piece by hand, using the traditional method of a mallet and chisel. He said, “It’s a lovely quote, so I was pleased to be asked to pay tribute to it in this way – there’s a special charm and authenticity when letters are hand carved into stone.”
