Frome fundraiser, Radek Evans, is continuing to raise money for local charities this year – and his next challenge will see him run a half marathon each month for a year, dressed in different costumes.
Following Radek’s success at last year’s Bath Half Marathon, where he raised £1,000 and awareness for Frome-based family support charity Purple Elephant by running in an elephant costume, he has now set himself the challenge to replicate this each month to raise money for local charities Fair Frome, Purple Elephant, Frome Carnival and the national charity Macular Society, that offers support to anyone affected by central vision loss.
“All of these charities are desperate for money,” explained Radek. “I volunteer as best I can, but these charities need more money so they can continue to help some of the most vulnerable people, which is why I’ve set myself a challenge as big as this, as hopefully it will grab people’s attention and encourage them to donate what they can.
“I know money is tight for everyone at the moment, but if you can donate, please do show your support as these charities really make a difference to the town.”
Radek will be completing a series of official half marathons, such as the Bath, Frome, Bournemouth and Jersey half marathons, as well as other unofficial half marathons around the local area. Radek will also take part in half marathons across Europe, including Helsinki and Antigua and he has already completed half marathons in Tenerife and Lisbon.
Radek says that he was inspired by Eddie Izzard, also known as Suzy, who ran 32 marathons in 31 days to raise money for charity. He is planning to run the half marathons in a series of costumes, including Dumbo the elephant, a leprechaun, Nico the gorilla, Doughnut the dog, and Donald the duck.

Could your business sponsor Radek?
Radek is appealing for any local businesses that would be willing to sponsor Radek for £300 as he will wear a t-shirt with the company’s name on it while completing the marathons. He can be contacted through the JustGiving page.
