Frome MP Anna Sabine has been promoted from the backbenches to serve as the Liberal Democrats’ spokesperson for culture, media and sport.
Appointed by Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey, Anna says she is ‘immensely proud’ to join the Front Bench and ‘excited to get started.’
She said, “I am immensely proud to have been appointed, and I want to thank Ed for bringing me into this role. Culture, media and sport knit communities together, boost wellbeing and fuel local economies, from arts groups to grassroots teams to public broadcasters. These sectors are not luxuries; they are central to who we are as a nation.
“For me, this is personal. I first picked up the bassoon at school, and trying to learn an instrument gave me confidence and taught me valuable skills around creativity, persistence and practice. As a parent, I can now see how sport matters in helping to build resilience, confidence and wellbeing in young people from every walk of life. I am determined to ensure these opportunities are open to every child and community.”
Anna’s political journey reflects her long-standing commitment to public service. She is Vice Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Music Education and active in groups covering suicide prevention, radiotherapy and youth wellbeing.
“There are so many challenges facing culture, media and sport, one of the largest employment sectors in the UK, bringing billions into the economy. I look forward to working with the rest of the Front Bench team so we can hold the government accountable and see this sector flourish. I’m excited to get started.”
