A LOCAL community project has been named a winner in this year’s ITV People’s Projects, walking away with £38,340 of National Lottery funding.
With the money, The Remakery: Frome will partner with Edventure: Frome, Frome’s Men’s Shed, Fair Frome’s Furniture Bank, SHARE – a Library of Things, Coder Dojo Frome and Openstorytellers to host 113 days of community activities in the Remakery: Frome’s workshop at the Welsh Mill Hub.
Lisa Hawes of Remakery: Frome says, “It’s been incredibly heartening to have received so much support from within the local community. Many local shops and cafes helped us to distribute postcards. Frome Town Council, Frome Medical Practice and the Health Connections team really got behind us. We had an amazing team of Edventure ex-students, SHARE volunteers and Men’s Shedders who showed up again and again to help us spread the word. We are so grateful to everyone for their support. And we’re really excited about putting this funding to good use.”
To say thank you to everyone in Frome (and beyond) who voted for them, and supported them with their time and energy, Remakery:Frome and SHARE – A Library of Things will host a joint celebration on Sunday 10th June at 3pm.
Lisa said, “This event is both a Thank You to everyone who supported our bid and an opportunity for us to showcase our new, monthly get-togethers of making and mending!
“Bring along your broken items (bikes, clothes, electrical items, toys etc) and our volunteer fixers will help you get them back in good shape if they can. It’s free, and there will be cake, but please book your place in advance at https://remakery share.eventbrite.co.uk.”
Aliss Vass of SHARE says, “Here at SHARE we are very excited to be awarded this funding. It will enable us to provide many more opportunities for upcycling and repairing at events in the Remakery. The community can come together, learn new skills and make new friends. Look out for monthly events.”
Nicola Tanner of Edventure:Frome says, “One of the best things about this campaign – aside from winning of course – has been the support we have got from volunteers spreading the word and the lovely people of Frome getting behind us. We are excited about the expansion of several fabulous projects that this funding will make possible.”
Throughout the voting campaign, the team was struck by the number of local people who felt moved to support the project after watching the touching stories from the Frome Shed in the People’s Project. Patrick Abrahams of the Frome Shed says, “A big thank you to all those people from Frome and further afield who voted for the project. We have so many people wanting to come to the Shed and this is great because we can now run extra sessions.”
