500 members of the Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Rock Choir, including Frome’s very own Rock Choir contingent, came together on the evening of Friday April 22nd, to sing in a stunning setting; the beautiful Wells Cathedral.
The Rock Choir say that the 500-strong choir sang out all their latest songs, including Dreams by The Cranberries, I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston, a particularly poignant version of Hallelujah (with founder of Rock Choir Caroline Redman Lusher joining the group and singing the solo) and the stunning Bridge Over Troubled Water, which was dedicated to the people of Ukraine.
Choir Leader, Emma Webb, said, “I contacted Wells Cathedral thinking I probably wouldn’t hear back from them, but they responded with great enthusiasm and were amazing throughout the organisation of the event.
“I feel very lucky to be able to have all our Rockies together and singing again, we’d be happy singing anywhere but in as beautiful a setting as Wells Cathedral, wow! Just wow! And, to be joined by the creator of Rock Choir, Caroline Redman Lusher, was a huge treat for the members, most of whom hadn’t met her before. It was just a perfect evening of joy, laughter and singing! We very much hope to do it again someday.”
Frome Rock Choir member, Carol Curtis said, “I personally joined [Rock Choir] four years ago and I have enjoyed every minute! Even when we get wet and cold singing at a gig! Being in a choir was my New Year Resolution, and when a Scottish friend told me about being in Glasgow Rock Choir, I thought why not!
“So, I went online and booked a taster session in Frome. I was nervous, but everyone was so friendly and Emma Webb, Rock Choir Leader, made it fun! Singing definitely helped me through lockdown and through some darker times in my life. How can you not smile when you are singing! Although perhaps a few tears when it’s a sad song. I would say to anyone who likes to sing, come for along for a taster session and try it!”
