Cadet Jamie Easton, 17 from Frome, was awarded The Prince Philip Medal at Welbeck – The Defence Sixth Form College’s (DSFC) Annual General Inspection on Saturday 6th July.
The parade was presided over by Air Marshal Edward Stringer CB CBE, Director General of Joint Force Development and Director General Defence Academy within Joint Forces Command. Parents and VIPs were treated to a military parade by over 300 students, accompanied by the National Marching Band of the RAF Air Cadets.
The Prince Philip Medal is awarded to the Year 13 student who has made the most significant overall contribution to the college and Jamie is the 25th recipient of the medal at the college.
On receiving the award Jamie said, “It is a privilege and an honour to be awarded the Prince Phillip medal. However, the real honour has been the extraordinary experiences and people I have met over the two years at the college.”
Jamie was home educated until he was 13 and then attended Kingdown School where he completed his GCSEs before coming to Welbeck to study his A levels. He now plans to read a degree in robotics mechatronics and control engineering at Loughborough University. After graduating, Jamie will attend RAF College Cranwell and subsequently commence his career as an engineering officer in the Royal Air Force.
Jamie’s parents, Wendy and Richard said, “We couldn’t be more proud of Jamie. He has always taken every opportunity that has been available to him and worked hard in each instance, achieving great things along the way. Being presented with this award is a huge honour and continues to show us what an amazing young person he has become, reminding us how lucky we are.”
Welbeck’s principal, Peter Middleton said “During his two years at Welbeck, Jamie has shown dedication, commitment and initiative in all aspects of his education and personal development. He has made an outstanding contribution to the college community and been an excellent role model for others to follow. He is a very worthy winner of this award and I wish him every success at university and in his future career within the Royal Air Force.”
