The 2012 Olympic Judo Bronze medalist and past World Champion, Carina Bryant, visited Selwood Academy on the morning of Tuesday 14th October to encourage pupils to raise money for the ‘Superschools Educational Trust’.
For the past 20 years, bi-annually Selwood has supported Superschools, which raises money to fund the training of young, talented athletes.
Every pupil had their individual photograph taken with Carina, before performing five different fitness exercises for 45 seconds.
In a whole school assembly Carina talked about her 25 years in Judo, which includes four Olympic Games. She revealed how her career was full of disappointments before she eventually won an Olympic Bronze medal. Perseverance and an ‘I can achieve’ positive attitude was her key message.
During the assembly pupils and teachers, including Mr Steve Wilkie, Mr Bryan White and Mr Jamie Prouse, took part in a demonstration of Judo moves with Carina and fought one another on a mat.
This inspirational visit was greatly enjoyed by staff and pupils.
