The recently formed Save the NHS Frome group, has an impressive series of events planned over the next few weeks, raising awareness and encouraging support for the NHS.
On Saturday 14th February a Valentine’s day stall was held next to Ellenbray in Frome promoting appreciation for the NHS.
Members of the public queued up to sign a giant Valentine’s card with their positive messages, which were then presented to Frome Community Hospital on the following Monday.
The ward sister explained how much the messages mean to them and that when they have stressful times they can remember that their work is appreciated. This event was part of a national ‘999 call for the NHS’ day of action.
On Saturday 28th February, Save the NHS Frome group are supporting the 38 degrees action for the NHS in the town centre.
This will be followed by a hustings at Westway cinema on Sunday 1st March, 7.00pm, at which all the parliamentary candidates for Somerton and Frome will answer questions from the public on the theme of the NHS. People are requested to send their questions in advance to savethenhsfrome@gmail .com so that a range of questions can be assured.
Save the NHS Frome is linked with many organisations around the country campaigning to stop the privatisation of the NHS.
The NHS was set up after WW2 during a time of far greater economic hardship than we have now. As Aneurin Bevan put it at that time, “The NHS will last as long as there are people prepared to fight for it.” People all over the country are showing they are indeed prepared for that.
