A SPECIAL fundraising event to raise money and awareness of the Frome-based counselling service Youth Space is taking place at 23 Bath Street on Saturday 25th March from 5pm to 10.30pm and local musicians are volunteering their time and talents to make the day one to remember.
The counselling service is for 15–18-year-olds living in Frome and surrounding areas, and the initiative is run by local charity Wessex Counselling & Psychotherapy. Young people often face feelings of depression, anxiety – especially around exams, loneliness, or feeling different to others – and the service offers a safe space to talk about these issues.
In keeping with the charity’s ethos of ‘affordable and accessible’ the event will be free entry. Donations are welcome and charity buckets will be available as well as an online link.
MCd by Frome’s ‘Musical Mayor’ Sara Butler Bartholomew, from local band Back of the Bus, the music starts at 5pm!
On the line up are:
- The Decades – four disparate souls who have nothing in common apart from a love of music!
- Ariel – an alternative folk singer/songwriter/storyteller. The alter ego of performing artist Portia van de Braam.
- The MellowTones – original, uplifting, soul searching songs and harmonies. With rhythms from far and wide.
- The Meltones – vocals, guitar, harmonica and cajon, writing and performing their own songs with a couple of dance covers thrown in!
- Ginger Sun – guitar and vocal duo putting their own funky spin on an eclectic mix from Peggy Lee to Iron Maiden, Maroon 5 to Deep Purple!
- DJ Shelasoul – music lovin’ sista with a passion for vinyl! Shelasoul will be providing music between acts and finishing the evening off in style!
The weekend marks Wessex Counselling & Psychotherapy’s 40thanniversary; from small beginnings in 1983 it is Frome’s longest running counselling service and now offers affordable, professional, accredited counselling & psychotherapy in Frome, Bath, Bristol and Street and a range of counsellor training courses and continuing professional development events.
Jane Bennett, training coordinator for the charity, says, “As a local charity, over the years we have been supported by the local community in raising funds to help us support our low-cost counselling schemes, for which we are very grateful. This has enabled members of the community who may be struggling financially to access our services.”
