Edventure’s latest project, Make:Shed, is up and running and inviting new members to join up as it continues to grow.
Inspired by the success of the existing Frome Men’s and Women’s sheds, this year’s spring team of edventure start-up students created Make:Shed to provide a similar offering for young adults in Frome
Make:Shed members have the use of tools and equipment, the chance to learn, share and develop skills and to be part of community of makers. Weekly sessions provide a regular open workshop space for people aged 18-35 to work on practical and creative projects, individually or with others and have now been running for two months. It is free to join and attend and runs every Thursday evening 6-9pm in the Remakery at the Welsh Mill Hub, just a short walk from Frome town centre.
Members have so far invited in skilled people who are willing to share and pass on their knowledge, from local artist, Julie, who has a studio in the Welshmill Hub and came along to share some pottery techniques, to friend of the shed, Terry, who supported a member to maintain his chainsaw.
Shed facilitator, Leah Harrison said, “Creating and running Make:Shed has helped me to remember how important it is to make time for creativity and for the things I love in my busy life. We are always welcoming new members, so if this sounds like the place for you, then drop in this (or any) Thursday and get involved, we would love to meet you.
Shed facilitator Cassie Morris said, “We are so pleased with all the positive feedback we’ve had from members and it’s been great to meet so many creative people. We wouldn’t want anybody to miss out on what we are doing here because they couldn’t afford the membership fees, so we don’t have any! We are proud to be able to offer this space and the use of tools and equipment for free – we believe everyone should be able to explore their creativity and learn new skills.
“We are on the look-out for more skill sharers (of any age), so please do get in touch if you have a skill or craft you would like to share with members, We have been overwhelmed by the support for the project we have received so far from the Frome community and look forward to seeing what happens next.”
If you would like to find out more, then drop in to a session at the Remakery, Welsh Mill Hub, Thursdays, 6-9pm
