ORGANISERS of The Frome Independent have apologised after cancelling their first market of the year earlier this month.
The Frome Independent scheduled for Sunday 5th March was cancelled because of a bad weather forecast.
The market team said, “We consulted with the Met Office directly and it forecasted persistent rain and heavy winds all day. The predictions of 20mph wind with gusts between 31 and 41mph meant that we could not guarantee the safety of our market structures and we couldn’t afford the risks to public, trader and staff safety.
“We took the decision with a very heavy heart and know that this will be very disappointing news for all our traders, businesses and visitors but ultimately we have to put safety first.
“We are aware that we have been very lucky with the weather in the past and have never cancelled a market since its inception as the St Catherine’s Artisan market. Unfortunately the weather is the one element of running the event that we simply cannot control.
“We look forward to welcoming people to our next edition of The Frome Independent on Sunday 2nd April – fingers crossed it will be a sunny Spring day.”
