THE Mells 10k took place again this October continuing to raise money for CLIC Sargent in memory of young local, Ben Crutchley.
The 10km course takes participants on two laps through the grounds of the Mells Park estate and can be completed either on bike, by running or walking.
The fundraising event is in honour of Ben Crutchley, a nine-year-old boy who died of a brain tumour in 2012.
Following his death, Ben’s family, who live in Newbury near Frome, pledged to raise £1million for CLIC Sargent, the charity that supported them through his illness. So far they have raised £276,900. Over a quarter of their target!
Su Crutchley said, “It was a brilliant day again with over 100 participants and we raised over £6,500 which, with the gift aid takes our total for the Mells 10K to over £50,000. We had fantastic support from Frome Triathlon Club this year who raised an amazing £725. They loved that everyone could be involved as their partners could come along and walk too.
“As part of our £1million pledge to CLIC Sargent, the Mells 10k has become our favourite event to organise. The support we receive from friends and family, far and wide, is incredible.
“As well as all our local friends who regularly take part, we have had some people join us from Scotland, Manchester, Cornwall, Wales, Berkshire – the list goes on!
“It is a fantastic event in a stunning part of Somerset that is not normally open to the public. Come and join us on Saturday 13th October 2018 for our fifth Mells 10K, you won’t want to miss it!”.
