Local performer, Rosie Miles, is organising a cabaret in Mells Tithe Barn on Saturday 15th December in aid of Frome-based counselling charity We Hear You.
This is the second time Rosie’s cabaret has come to Mells and the event ruffled some local feathers the last time it was held in 2011. Described by Rosie as ‘a night of eye-popping extravagance’ and promising a concoction of entertainment not often seen in a Somerset village, it proved too much for some Mells residents. Rosie received an anonymous phone call and posters in the village were defaced or disappeared.
In a bid for artistic freedom, Rosie took her story to BBC Radio Somerset and defended herself and the show. In the end, the cabaret went ahead with most of the population of Mells in attendance and a fantastic night was had by all.
Rosie says, “At 8pm on Saturday December 15th, the picturesque and respectable 15th Century village of Mells will once again be thrown into cultural turmoil.
“A pole dancer, a contortionist, two tango dancers, three ladies of Xanadu, three comedians, a pair of monks, a sort of magician, a DJ, an opera singer and the irrepressible Rosie will gather in The Tithe Barn to delight their audience with a celebration of grace, song, groove, sensuality and downright madness.
“£25 buys you an entire evening’s entertainment, a glass of champagne and canapes on arrival, plus homemade mince pies. There is also a cash bar.
“And it is all for a wonderful cause. Proceeds will go to WHY in Frome – providing compassionate counselling for those affected by cancer.
“It’ will be a memorable fun-d-raising extravaganza. Miss this and you may as well go to bed for Christmas. Be quick, as tickets are selling like hotcakes.”
Tickets for the cabaret can be purchased from Mells Village Shop, L’Aperitivo Café, 16 Catherine Hill or from the Facebook event page at www.facebook.com/rosiesno1 cabaretshow2018/
