THE Memorial Theatre has managed to bounce back to its best this year coming off the back of Covid restrictions.
The year finished with the Cinderella pantomime playing to full houses and there were also other successful performances of Dick Whittington and The Little Mermaid, together with a year of varied shows and many full houses.
A spokesperson for the Theatre says, “The Theatre entered the last year having had the shadow of the Covid pandemic hanging over us all, which caused postponements and re-scheduling which lasted for the whole year and also led to doubt whether the pantomime, Dick Whittington (in December 2021 / January 2022) could go ahead. Fortunately, despite slow earlier ticket sales the show went ahead and was a tremendous success.
“Attendance during the year has held up well and we have had a successful year of varied shows and many full houses. In particular the shows by Frome Musical Theatre Company have been huge successes with The Little Mermaid being a stand out production.
“The theatre was a focus as centre for remembrance following the sad passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II and held the annual Remembrance Sunday service to commemorate those who have fallen in service of our country.
“One of the abiding observations of the many visitors to the theatre is the wonderful friendly atmosphere and welcome they receive from the volunteers who run the theatre. Fortunately, the great support of our patrons is allowing us to continue to maintain and invest in the theatre. For a building approaching its 100th birthday there are extensive issues requiring substantial maintenance and upgrade and replacement.
“Looking forward, we are always keen to welcome new volunteers to our dedicated team. We held a well-attended open day in November and are pleased to welcome new volunteers and will look to repeat open days more regularly. The Trustees are also looking at a centenary appeal to continue developing the theatre for the next 100 years and maintain the unique venue that was so thankfully saved back in the 1980s.
“We are looking forward to a busy year ahead, following the popular pantomime Cinderella playing to full houses and wish all of our patrons and those associated with the theatre a prosperous New Year.
“If you would like to become involved, we have roles in the box office, kiosk, stewards and technical and backstage roles please email us on info@fromememorialtheatre.co.uk”
