LOCAL bookshop, Winstone’s Hunting Raven Books, is hosting an ‘in conversation’ event with Mells resident, Julia Samuel MBE, who is one of the UK’s leading psychotherapists.
“In the 1990’s Julia helped launch the Child Bereavement Trust as a Founder Patron and has worked with thousands of families to help them overcome grief, trauma, and the difficulties that life can throw our way,” says bookshop manager, Tina Gaisford-Waller.
“Julia is also a Sunday Times bestselling author, with three books to her name. Her latest, Every Family Has a Story, takes a compassionate and nuanced look at family; exploring the intricacies of family dynamics, insightfully revealing how deeply we are influenced by our family relationships and how we can navigate the many challenges thrown up by those closest, but not always easiest, of bonds.”
Speaking about the book in a recent interview with The Guardian, Julia said, “I became fascinated by how patterns in families get passed on. And how what isn’t dealt with in one generation goes down to the next until someone’s prepared to feel the pain. Often, it’s the things that are unsaid that cause more harm than the event itself, or the stories that are made up to cover up the secrets.”
The book is broken down into eight case studies, each charting a different family’s path through therapy as they try to resolve the slights, deceptions and painful events that have reverberated down through the generations.
To celebrate the book’s release, and to delve a little deeper into the subject, Winstone’s Hunting Raven Books is hosting an ‘in conversation’ event with Julia Samuel at the Merlin Theatre in Frome. The event takes place on Friday 8th April at 7.30pm.
There will be a relaxed Q&A following the event. All of Julia’s books will be available to buy on the night and she will be very happy to sign them.
Tickets are available at www.merlintheatre.co.uk or by calling the Box Office on 01373 465949 (Mon-Fri, 10am-12pm).
