OPEN Mental Health recently kicked off its wellbeing roadshow across Somerset with its first show at the Cheese and Grain on Monday 10th October, with the mayor cllr Sara Butler in attendance.
The event was aimed at creating community awareness about the various mental health support services available in Somerset and how to access them. The roadshow was a free entry event and involved local artists’ displays, a raffle and an opportunity to have one-on-one discussions about mental health with trained volunteers.
On display was a set of stained-glass wings created by artist Edgar Phillips, who runs workshops and experience days for mental wellbeing.
Natalie Campbell, the co-production manager at Rethink Mental Illness and event coordinator, said the roadshow presented a great learning opportunity to local people.
She said, “Very often, mental health is not taken seriously until people are in a crisis. Part of the reason we organised this event was to provide members of the public with the information and awareness they need so that they are able to get the right support at the right time.”
The Mendip Roadshow is the first of several other planned across Somerset. Stay up to date with the organisation by following Open Mental Health on Facebook.
