FROME’S Children’s Carnival Queen and Carnival Granny and Great-Granny have been crowned following the selection which took place earlier this month.
This year’s Children’s Carnival Queen Maisie-Mai Sharland will be joined by her four attendants Alisha Davey, Milly-May Ayres, Demi-Leigh Hendy and Alexis Toop.
The Carnival Queen and Miss Teenager were crowned earlier this month.
Maisie-Mai’s mum Maria Sharland said, “Maisie-Mai was absolutely ecstatic to be chosen. She was the Maid of Honour last year and really wanted to be Children’s Carnival Queen this year. She is really looking forward to being part of carnival duties and the carnival day itself.
“I was adult Carnival Queen in 2006 so for Maisie-Mai to be Children’s Carnival Queen in 2016 is very special. We are all very proud of her.”
This year’s Carnival Granny and Great-Granny are mother and daughter Loretta Hughes and Julie Barney.
Loretta said, “We are both so honoured to be part of Frome Carnival again. This is my second time as Carnival Gran but in pervious years I’ve been Carnival Queen, Maid of Honour and Little Maid of Honour. This is the first time my mum Julie has been Carnival Great-Granny but she was Carnival Granny when I was Carnival Queen in 1999. My sister was also my attendant that year, so it was a real family affair.
“Our whole family has always supported the Carnival because it’s so important and a great asset to the town. I always try to help in some way.”
