FROME Town Council Rangers have uncovered a long-forgotten mosaic whilst working in Victoria Park.
Rachel Griffin at Frome Town Council said, “There they were, the Rangers, digging and prepping the raised bed by the bowls club in Victoria Park ready for a fresh planting scheme… and they uncovered this!
“Initially the team knew very little about the find and speculated that it was likely to be a Victoria mosaic siting a statue or trough that had since been covered over.
“Councillor Kate Bielby quickly solved the mystery when she remembered seeing an image on Victoria Park and Mary Baily Field users’ group of a stand of a drinking fountain with an image of what is now the Steiner School in the background. The Rangers are now planning to incorporate the mosaic into a revised planting scheme.
“Inspired by the find, Frome Town Council is interested in any old images of their parks and open spaces.”
