FROME Selwood Tennis Club has welcomed members (both adult and junior) from Murrhardt Tennis Club in Germany, continuing the town’s long-standing tradition of Twinning exchange visits.
The visitors stayed in the homes of club members for a long weekend with a flurry of activities to keep all entertained.
A visit to Bath included a tour of No.1 Royal Crescent, a picnic, and introduction to the game of rounders as well as a chance to take in some famous Bath sights.
Other guests chose to have a wander round Frome remarking that in all these visits, seeing something of the delightful town they were staying in always got missed out.
The day ended with a barbecue and quiz and garden games to keep everyone entertained until well after dark.
Saturday saw the usual knock-out and drinkers tennis tournaments, with the introduction of a tournament for juniors. The night culminated in a party for all members and visitors with a fabulous Ceilidh band that got everyone up on their feet and swinging their partners. “England” also won a penalty shoot-out against “Germany” in an impromptu football contest with the help of some junior members.
The German guests expressed their thanks for the efforts put into the weekend by the club’s organising committee and made their farewells on Sunday promising to offer something equally as impressive for a return visit in two years. The club would like to offer its thanks to their members for all their hard work and support; notably Geoff Smith, Donna and Adrian West, Victoria Barwell, Laura Murray, Lucian Bujor and Rachel Blacklidge – and to Daniel Kershaw-Moore for his football skills.
