LOCAL musician Nick Clinch is hosting ‘Music, that’s WHY’ a night of live music at The Tree House on Friday 17th February in aid of cancer counselling charity We Hear You (WHY).
Tickets cost £15 and three bands, Dogs Play Dead, The Lost Trades and Billy in the Lowground, have generously agreed to play free of charge at the gig.
Nick said, “Music, that’s WHY is a night not to be missed, for a great local cause. Dogs Play Dead are a unique collaboration of professional musicians who perform songs by the influential and distinct American Rock band Grateful Dead. This stellar line up is made up of Ethan Johns, producer and musician who has worked with McCartney, Tom Jones and Kings of Leon amongst many; Dave Smith who has worked with Fofoulah and Robert Plant – Shapeshifter; and the trio is completed with the fantastic Nick Pini who has worked with Tom Chaplin, Tom Jones and Laura Marling.
“Expect interpretations of many Grateful Dead songs from their vast and eclectic back catalogue. The music will be varied with fantastic versions of tunes that in their day were explorative, ground-breaking and which delved into many genres from folk, jazz to psychedelia. A band to be enjoyed by the music connoisseurs and music-loving public in general.
“The Lost Trades are a vocal harmony trio with a cool Laurel Canyon vibe. Three Wiltshire-based singer songwriters (Jamie R Hawkins, Phil Cooper and Tamsin Quin) were brought together by a mutual love of modern folk and roots music and joined forces in late 2019 for a three-part harmony, modern folk adventure. The Lost Trades tell carefully crafted stories using an array of stringed instruments and light percussion, all lovingly stitched together with soaring vocal harmonies.
“Billy in the Lowground have a sound of their own, and they’ve resisted being slotted neatly into a pigeonhole from day one. Suffice to say, they’re a six-piece West Country rock band with a distinct Irish influence courtesy of fiddle player Ruth Behan, driven by sheer passion and the tight rhythm section, while the acoustic and vocals work mercilessly and ebb away at your subconscious, playing original songs written by Chris Hibberd. Formed in 1991 and still going strong to this day, material that will haunt you for days.”
Music, that’s WHY takes place on Friday 17th February at 8pm, at The Tree House, Berkley Road, Frome. All proceeds from the event will support We Hear You’s free specialist counselling and emotional support for children and adults affected by cancer and life-threatening conditions.
