A LOCAL language teacher will be teaming up with music charity Drum It Up this month, to put on a one-day workshop for speakers of English as a second language.
‘Beat it Speak it!’ will be a workshop based on English teacher Soo Wright’s ‘moving words’ methodology.
Drum it Up organiser Tanya Sherriff said, “Using drums, percussion and movement, participants will become more familiar with the rhythm of the English language and have fun practising aspects of pronunciation such as stressed syllables in words and stressed words in sentences. This will help them to embody the ‘rhythmical music’ of the English language.
“Soo is a very experienced ESOL teacher and a Frome-based community dance artist. The course will be based on a methodology she has developed called ‘Moving Words’ which helps language learners develop confidence, improve communication skills in English and remember more.
“I’m passionate about the positive effects drumming and music can have on individuals and groups, and this innovative method of combining rhythm and learning English is fun and creative, so the participants can learn and retain much more in one day.”
The one-day course will take place on Sunday 20th March at the Hubnub Centre on Whittox Lane.
Places cost £20; there are limited places so booking is essential. For more information or to book, contact Soo on 07914 807796 or soo@networked-learning.com or Tanya on 07941 248621 or drumitupsomerset@gmail.com
