The Frome & District Day Centre held its Annual General Meeting on Monday 24th August after a very busy and exciting year.
“From April 2014 to March 2015 we catered for 6,983 people for lunch,” reported treasurer Gerald Franks. “This near enough equals a quarter of the Frome population and is around 146 people a week, Monday and Thursdays.
“During the year we had several interesting talks about strokes, police, fire service, Red Cross with CPR, Doctor Powell on diabetes, Guide Dogs for the Blind, just to mention a few. Also we have had some good projects; art, pottery, computer, line dancing and bingo.
“We had various days out in the summer, an enjoyable holiday in Eastbourne and then returned there in December for Turkey & Tinsel.
“One of our main projects is the intergeneration project with Frome College, with students attending and mixing with the elderly, talking about their day and Frome past, which is ongoing and successful. With thanks to Somerset Community Foundation for providing funds and also thanks to the council for grants.
“Thanks were expressed to the Frome Town Football Club for the catering and staff for excellent catering, to the committee for all their help on jobs at all time, the raffles, selling bingo tickets etc which provides funds for the club.
“The chairperson, Vicky, gave a report, thanking everyone and also stating that she is standing down as she is moving to join her family in Southport. She will be truly missed and we wish her a good future.
“The new chairperson elected is Mrs Leslie Whittcombe and the committee was voted in en bloc.
“We welcome all over 50 retired plus to come and join us for lunches two days per week, Monday and Thursday for friendship and companionship. The lunch costs £5.20. Our aim is to get the elderly out of their four walls to join us and give a good quality of life. You will be made welcome by everyone . We do have a membership fee of £6 per year and we only close for bank holidays. Looking forward to seeing you all.”

![Town-wide programme brings month of social activities in May
A month-long programme of activities and events is set to take place across the town in May as part of an initiative encouraging residents to connect with themselves, each other and local places.
The scheme, Frome Connects, will run throughout the month and includes a mix of social activities, creative events and informal meet-ups in community spaces.
Highlights include the return of Dress Up Fridays, which began during lockdown and invites people to wear formal clothing or fancy dress and turn the town into their catwalk each Friday.
Set-piece moments include a Kate Bush-themed flashmob (Running Up That [Catherine] Hill) on 30th May, followed by a bell peal at St John’s Church where the bells will play Running Up That Hill.
There will also be a whole-town drone photo on Friday 30th May, with everyone encouraged to ‘look up’ at around 12.30pm.
