A NEW support group for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) is being launched in Frome, with its first meeting arranged for Monday 4th June.
Arrhythmias (heart rhythm disorders) affect over two million people in the UK and atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia. People aged 40 and over have a one in four lifetime risk of developing AF and an increased risk of a life threatening AF-related stroke – the most severe type of stroke.
Facilitated by Helen Hodgson, a cardiac physiologist from the Royal United Hospital in Bath, the Frome AF Support Group will offer information about atrial fibrillation as well as the opportunity to meet other patients and carers and share experiences.
Helen Hodgson said. “People diagnosed with AF often don’t know what it is. My aim is to help provide them with the knowledge they need to support each other through their own experiences.”
The group takes place at Frome Medical Practice, Enos Way, BA11 2FH and runs from 10.30am-12pm. Booking is not essential but if you would like to know more, or book a place, please contact Julie Fear on 01789 867 533 or email Julie@heartrhythmalliance.org
