A NEW book, Route 3, written by Robin Jones who lives in Frome and Carol Kenward, was inspired during the 2020 lockdown when Robin hatched a plan to cycle to Cornwall with Carol, having discovered a Sustrans map of Route 3 when tidying his cupboards.
Bicycle is Robin’s preferred mode of transport and Route 3 is a 252-mile cycle route on minor roads and traffic-free paths from Bristol to Padstow, Cornwall.
Robin said, “Although Carol was initially alarmed at the prospect, she was soon on board with the call of the wild.
“We used the kit we had, not wanting to buy any special equipment and set off with no forward planning of accommodation, preferring to camp out wherever possible.”
The book is a daily unfolding of their cycle adventure, including photos and pen drawings. It is both travelogue and personal reflection, built on our love of nature, spontaneity and trust.
For all you ‘would-be’ cyclists, it is an invitation to dust off your wheels and feel the breeze of possibility in your hair.
