The Mayor of Frome, Peter Macfadyen, has added to his collection of chains with one made by Marion Gore who is a member of the Frome Textile Workshop.
Marion made the chain from a mixture of golden, black and red yarns using a variety of techniques (finger knitting, inkle loom weaving).
Peter visited the old Sunday School in Chapel Barton on 6th November where the Frome Textile Workshop has temporarily located to see the loom and to have a go at weaving.
Peter said, “I am delighted with the chain, it is beautiful and definitively one of the best in my growing collection.
“I am so pleased to see the Textile Workshop continue thanks to the generosity of the owners of the building. It is so important that the Workshop survives, not only to keep the crafts of weaving, spinning and dyeing alive but also to provide a creative outlet.
“I firmly believe that being creative develops our ability to respond imaginatively to life and all its challenges and I sincerely hope a permanent home can be found for the group soon.”
The Workshop will be opening its doors to the public and holding a sale and open day at the Sunday School on Sunday 7th December. The Sunday School can be found half way up Catherine Hill through the gated entrance on the right.
