Frome Heritage Museum has appointed a new Chair of its Board of Trustees – Bob Cuzner.
Bob has taken over the chair’s position from Dr Emma Robinson, who, after nearly six years in the role has moved to a specialist position looking at the management of the Museum’s collections.
Having joined as a volunteer at the Museum, some years ago, Bob has gained a detailed impression of the key issues that it must address.
“In particular,” he says “the Museum must strengthen its links with other local institutions in Frome, and also look closely at what potential exists for heritage bodies within the Saxonvale development”.
He takes on this role as the Museum moves into a year of exciting developments.
He says, “At the Museum, an online catalogue will soon be going live with details of its collections, artefacts, exhibits and a document archive totalling over 20,000 items. This will place the Museum amongst some of the most professionally respected in the country with an international internet presence.
“The Museum is already enjoying increased visitor numbers, boosted by its provision of many artefacts and illustrations to support the Bicentenary of the birth of John Singer whose Frome foundries cast such historical statues as the Figure of Justice above the Old Bailey.”
Bob Cuzner’s family originated in Beckington, where Daniel Cuzner was principal of the Beckington Collegiate School through most of the nineteen century.
Other parts of Bob’s family included Samuel Cuzner, the author of A Handbook of Froome (1867). Bob’s career has included the Government Information Service in London, Hampshire County Council Business Services and local government procurement committees.
He and his wife, Mary-Ann live in Frome, although Mary-Ann gallantly commutes most days to Southampton where she leads the City’s street-works projects.
