Would you like to join a team of people to create a community bicycle workshop for Frome? Somewhere for local people to learn/share skills, to repair, maintain and refurb bikes?
Edventure Frome are looking for local young adults (aged 18-35) who are interested in bicycles/working with their hands/social enterprise and are willing to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in to make their ideas reality.
The theme of Edventure’s upcoming start-up course (a free, 10-week, part-time, experiential course in community enterprise) will be to start-up a community bicycle workshop on the site of The Bike Shed at Critchill School.
The student team could put together all kinds of different programmes, from refurbishing bicycles for resale, to offering drop-in repair services and bicycle MOT sessions. The challenge for edventure students will be to work out what is viable in Frome, get this started, and bring together people who want to be involved, to take the project into the future.
The project is a partnership between Edventure, Critchill School and their Bike Shed, Frome Town Council, and Frome Missing Links and other groups. The aim is to get more people in Frome on two wheels more often, and to bring people together, to upskill people, cut carbon emissions, save land-fill waste and create meaningful employment opportunities.
Organisers say, “If you’d like to join the team of students who will set the project up, please apply soon – the course is almost full (www.edventurefrome.org/courses/start-up). And please do get in touch with amelia@edventurefrome. org if you ride mountain bikes or BMXs, love fixing bikes or want to play some part in making this project happen.”
Edventure are also hosting a free community event at The Welsh Mill Hub on Wednesday 11th March (6-8pm) where everyone is welcome to come along and share their ideas, input and support to make this project come to life – please do come if you’d like to see a Community Bike Workshop in Frome – details are at edventurefrome.org/events/ edventure-soup/
